A Quick Note to My Readers:
I’m making a change to my blog beginning today. In my desire to bring more value, inspire hope, and catalyze change in the world, I plan to publish more frequently. You can expect insightful commentary and ideas on current issues and the human experience but in smaller bites. Read on, and you’ll understand why.
My goal is to publish every day Monday through Friday. I hope you’ll consider remaining a subscriber or consider subscribing if you’re not already. One more thing, please share your thoughts on the change as we journey together.
Here’s to a better tomorrow.
I don’t have a physical calendar hanging on my wall anymore. I’ve gone full digital. Nevertheless, there is still something monumental to turning the page. It feels significant to wake up and see the last digit of the year on my lock screen advance to the next number. That little digit in 2024 was seemingly frozen in place for 366 days. (It was a leap year, if you remember). In our always-changing, always-moving, and always attention-grabbing society, that’s a long time for anything to go unchanged – that is, if I’m only looking at the last digit of the year.
The world still rotated. The sun set and rose again. The days advanced into weeks and weeks into months. Holidays and birthdays were celebrated, projects were started and finished, and ideas were generated. Personal and social gains were made, but not without the heartbreaking experience of failures and setbacks. Life is truly a daily struggle.
When we focus only on the last digit, the big picture, we risk losing the trees that make a forest (as my insightful wife often reminds me). It’s good to ground ourselves in the bigger narrative, but the incremental changes are just as impactful and what makes life wonderful.
Every cell in your body is active, even when you’re asleep. The earth rotates, even when we can’t feel it. There is more to life than our daily struggles which can sometimes feel as large as the universe. There is also something powerful when we show up every day to bring hope and positive change to ourselves, our community, and the world.
So here’s to 2025 and making incremental changes the best way I know how – one day at a time.
